Since achieving an independency in 1991, the Central Asian state of Kyrgyzstan began its path to the cultural growth and self-assertion. The population consists mainly of ethnic group of Turkish origin – Kyrgyz and some small groups of minorities. Along with the Kyrgyz, the official language is also Russian. In the Bishkek is not a lot of places of touristic interest, but the main charm of mountain landscapes and lakes are in the neighboring area, easily accessible via rent a car in Kyrgyzstan. In the south-west of the town there is a lake Issyk-Kul, surrounded by mountains Kungei Alatau on the one hand, and on the other by mountains Terskey Alatau.
Karakol is a 7 hour drive from the capital, on the other edge of a large lake Issyk-Kul. Stop to rest can be done in Tokmak or Balykchi. In addition of existing legend of the monster “jekai”, the lake has such a feature as the preservation of a constant warm temperature. Therefore, this area is prominent for its thermal resorts with hot springs around the lake.
Another interesting town is Arkit, located in the Fergana Valley, in the extreme western part of Kyrgyzstan. Here is the entrance to the reserve Sarycelek, which surrounds the same named lake. As Issyk-Kul, as well Sarycelek was recognized as Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The lake is located near the ridge Catkal, covered by lush alpine forests. Here you can find trails for hiking and bird watching.
The main ridge of the Tien Shan crosses the country and creates a natural border with China. Once you reach these territories of the state, if you wish you can go to China over the Torugart Pass.
And in the east, the highest mountain in the state is a Pobeda Peak, which reaches a height of 7439 m.
